NetSuite career advice should generally be solicited from people with real-world experience, and it’s a bonus if they have backgrounds as NetSuite consultants and end-users. Luckily, our team has this experience, and many of us have these backgrounds.
In this blog post, we’ll share several pieces of advice for anyone looking to start their NetSuite career path or others who have recently begun their careers.
NetSuite is stable and growing.
NetSuite has consistently been growing, evolving, and expanding since it was founded in 1998. As companies move to digitize and automate various aspects of business, there will always be a need for ERP and solutions offered by NetSuite.
In the past few years, companies across nearly every industry have committed to digital transformation, and the result has been an investment in NetSuite and other technologies.
NetSuite has experienced revenue growth of more than 27% each quarter for the fiscal year 2022.
Becoming a NetSuite administrator, consultant, or developer can provide stability because new customers sign up daily.
And, its 36,000+ existing customers will always need help with NetSuite service projects like customizations, data migrations, adding modules, and much more.
You’ll stay busy and billable!
Good salaries and generous benefits.
Once you have 3-5 years of experience, you are looking at a six-figure salary for most positions. This can range from account management and accountant to solutions architects and technical consultants. Experienced project managers are also highly sought after and can command high salaries.
For perspective, the median earning for full-time workers in the U.S. in 2020 was approximately $56,287, according to the U.S. Census.
Your starting salary in the NetSuite community will likely be around this level.
Also, many NetSuite Solution Provider partners and end-users have generous benefits. Some offer unlimited PTO, 401ks, in-office perks, and more.
At SuiteCentric, we offer a variety of health and lifestyle benefits for employees. (You can see them here.)
Before you know it, you will be able to offer your own NetSuite career advice to curious newcomers.
Lots of ways to get started, regardless of your background.
There are many different approaches to starting a NetSuite career. It’s ideal if you have a finance background and experience with Javascript, but soft skills like being a people person and possessing emotional intelligence are critical too. Project management is another coveted skill that can help you break through and climb the ladder.
You have the power to create your own path because the NetSuite user and partner ecosystem is so diverse. There is also an abundance of free online resources and tutorials to help you take the first step.
For example, you can start in a non-technical role such as a business development representative and eventually work your way into an implementation consultant role leading full-cycle implementations.
Alternatively, you could have valuable experience managing projects, processes, and people in different industries. This management background equips you with transferable skills to help companies keep projects on schedule, maintain billable resources, and much more.
These paths and many others are possible with enough hard work and determination.

Take advantage of NetSuite’s versatility.
NetSuite is a flexible platform used by companies in a myriad of industries and micro-industry verticals. For this reason, you can take your industry-specific knowledge and build customized solutions for customers. This applies to project management too!
It also empowers less experienced NetSuite professionals to develop expertise around their career interests.
There are niche use cases for NetSuite, and new ones are being created each year. Manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, retail, healthcare and life sciences, food and beverage, and construction are a few common industries we work with at SuiteCentric.
Additionally, NetSuite is constantly evolving and improving with two mass updates annually that strengthen critical functions and support new industry-specific business needs. You will always learn new things because the capabilities of NetSuite’s platform will continue growing.
NetSuite certifications are also available to amplify your marketability and support your career ambitions. As a NetSuite professional, your intellectual curiosity will be rewarded, and it can be advantageous when looking for ways to differentiate yourself from peers.
Leverage NetSuite integrations and your entrepreneurial spirit.
Not every company can operate with NetSuite’s out-of-the-box functionalities, so there will always be a need for integrations with other systems. This is common for new and existing NetSuite customers.
Understanding how software such as Salesforce or Shopify integrates with NetSuite can help win new business. It is an opportunity to leverage previous experience if you have worked with other platforms.
In the NetSuite Solution Provider community, some professionals earn new certifications and seek experience with complimentary software to better serve customers. This can increase your marketability and opens the door for participation in new business opportunities.
Separately, some NetSuite professionals create industry-specific extensions and add-ons to help fill the gaps left open with NetSuite’s basic packages. These can be marketed via the NetSuite SuiteApp marketplace or independently from your company’s website.
At SuiteCentric, we created a SuiteCommerce blog extension and Klarna extension that are sold and licensed to customers.
Both of these pursuits can increase your value to your company, and you could even turn them into a side hustle.
